Sad news! We’ve been informed by our host that the free webspace linked to our Skynet subscription will cease to be offered as from May 1st, 2021.

In the process, the Byrds Flyght website that we started in June 1999 will disappear from the Internet.

Although it has not been updated for a long time, it still is a source for all info about the band.

So if you want to save something from there, do it now.

Rusty Young, co-founder of POCO, died April 14, 2021. He was 75.

He was the only member to have stayed with the band permanently since it was founded in 1968.

Chris Hillman plays mandolin on Poco's "Crazy Eyes" LP from 1973. The title track, "Crazy Eyes" was written by Richie Furay and is about Gram Parsons.

A visitor of this website sent us the following story:

My name is Mike.  I attended a Byrds concert on Friday March 3rd, 1972 in Greeley Colorado at the University of Northern Colorado.

I do remember the crowd went crazy when the band did AMERICA'S GREAT NATIONAL PASTIME and of course EIGHT MILES HIGH, MR TAMBOURINE MAN and TURN TURN TURN.  My roommate was Jack K. who was a DJ at the University Radio Station: KUNC.  He invited the group over after the concert to our house that was a half block east of the Student Center.  We partied that night.  I woke up on the living room floor the next morning, and everyone was gone.  I guess they were better at partying than I was.  I sure wish I would not have partied that night.

Jimmi Seiter is closely related to the Byrds, having been their roadie, percussionist at concerts, and writer of 7 books about the band.

He has just created a website called "Echoes From The Canyons"; podcasts telling his side of the story will be published there.

Tom Stevens with Carla Olson and Gene Clark

Sid Griffin and Chris Hillman

R.I.P. Tom Stevens (The Long Ryders) (January 23, 2021)

Tom Stevens was an American bassist, guitarist, singer, and songwriter with The Long Ryders. He also released albums under his own name and collaborated with many other artists

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Stevens_(musician)

The reason why his death is mentioned here is because he’s linked to The Byrds:

Gene Clark sang dual lead vocals on some verses of The Long Ryders’ “Ivory Tower” from their "Native Sons" LP

Tom Stevens played bass with Gene Clark and Carla Olson at concerts (see picture)

The Long Ryders opened for Roger McGuinn at McCabe’s in August 1984, with Gene Clark joining McGuinn for two songs.

Chris Hillman joined The Long Ryders on stage for 3 or 4 songs at The Roxy, Hollywood, in November 1986 (see picture of Sid Griffin with Chris Hillman)

Our regular correspondent David E. sent us some pictures he took while attending Roger McGuinn's concert at The Old Vienna Kaffehaus, Westboro, MA on March 5th, 1989.

Many thanks to him.
