And yet another « new » Roger McGuinn « old » participation on a various artists compilation.

This time, it’s a triple CD from 2018 titled “Appleseed's 21st Anniversary Roots And Branches”

Roger McGuinn plays and sings on a duet version of “John Riley” with Judy Collins.

 

---For more than two decades the independent, idealistic Appleseed Recordings label has been releasing new and archival CDs of folk/roots-oriented music by many of the genre's greatest performers.

Appleseed's 21st Anniversary: Roots and Branches, a deluxe three-CD, 57-track set, combines highlights from past releases plus many more by a Who's Who of musical giants including Pete Seeger, Billy Bragg, Steve Earle, Joan Baez, Natalie Merchant, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Paxton, and Roger McGuinn.

Moreover, there are nine new/previously unreleased songs by high-profile friends of the label, including Springsteen's "If I Had a Hammer", plus Tom Morello's "This Land Is Your Land", Tom Russell, Tim Robbins and John Wesley Harding.

More than three hours of music are packaged in a digipack that includes a deluxe full-color 32-page booklet with notes about each song and artist and a history of the Appleseed label.---

Jim Gordon, ex-drummer for Derek & The Dominos, died March 13, 2023

Gordon performed on hundreds of notable recordings in the 1960s, including Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys (1966), Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers by Gene Clark (1967) and The Notorious Byrd Brothers by The Byrds (1968) to name but a few.

Italian label Appaloosa has just released a CD with a live concert by The Flying Burrito Brothers recorded at Sage, Germany on October 30, 1985.

To avoid copyright problems, the album is credited to “Greg Harris Live With Sneaky Pete And Skip Battin” (omitting drummer Jim Goodall on the way).

We just learned of a « new » CD by the current lineup of The Burrito Brothers.

A gathering of Chris James, Tony Paoletta, Peter Young, Michael Curtis, Ron Guilbeau, Walter  Egan, Noah Bellamy, Larry Patton, Ronnie Rael, Troy Krusz, Pamela Des Barres and Will James commemorated the 50th anniversary of the release of “The Gilded Palace Of Sin” in 1969 by performing all the songs from the LP at The Local, Nashville on November 9, 2019.

I am happy to share the good news: on December 8, This Day In Music Books will publish "Music is Love", the book on Crosby, Stills & Nash edited by me which collects a hundred unpublished accounts and the largest collection of CSN visuals ever published, featuring hundreds of  never- before-published images. The book also houses a large number of unpublished photographs featuring Neil Young.

The 312 color pages tell the tale of more than 50 years of CSN as artists and men, with an intro by Graham Nash.
Among the "voices" of the book: Bill Halverson (first CSN record engineer), Craig Doerge, George "Chocolate" Perry, Kenny Passarelli, Ken Weiss, Russ Kunkel, David Zimmer, Bonnie Bramlett, Rickie Lee Jones, Jeff Pevar, Roy McAlister, Paul Zollo, Mike Finnigan, Steve Silberman, Dick Boak, John Ferrentino, Glenn R Goodwin, Carolyne Mas, Pierre Robert. Plus managers, promoters, musicians, painters, luthiers, photographers, collectors from all five Continents.

Unpublished photographs (and memories) by some of the greats: Henry Diltz, Rowland Scherman, Tom Gundelfinger O'Neal, Lisa Law, Guido Harari, Luciano Viti.

The book will be available in two versions:

Three « new » Gram Parsons albums planned for 2023

Amoeba plans to release several Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris recordings in 2023.

Most if not all of these recordings have been circulating for decades among collectors, but here’s a chance to get them officially.

It’s a “funds raising” affair which will only see the light of day if $50,000 are raised

As of today November 18, 2022, US$31,779 are raised.
